Brian Bowman joined the tennis coaching staff at the University of Rochester in the summer of 2012, returning to the campus where he played for four years of tennis as an undergraduate student.
Bowman graduated from Rochester (’10) with a degree in Financial Economics and Mathematics and went on to pursue his master’s degree at St. Lawrence University. While studying at SLU, he also was an assistant coach for the Saints Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs. During his time there, the St. Lawrence women went 23-8 over the past two seasons, while both teams earned a ranking as high as #15 in the Northeast Region.
While at Rochester, Bowman was a two-time team captain (junior/senior years) while playing 1st doubles for all four seasons. He also was the Yellowjackets 1st singles player for three seasons.
Bowman achieved great heights academically while at UR, which include receiving the Lysle “Spike” Garnish Scholar Athlete Award, being named an ITA Scholar Athlete (’07-’09) and earning University Athletic Association All-Academic honors (’08-’10). In the spring of his senior year, Bowman also received the John Vitone Sportsmanship Award from the University of Rochester Athletic Department.
On the court, Bowman excelled at St. Lawrence University, winning the A-Flight doubles crown twice at the St. Lawrence Invitational. At the 2007 ITA Regional Championships, Bowman and teammate Ryan Kovaleski paired to reach the finals of the doubles bracket, narrowly missing a shot at nationals. Also, that year Bowman reached the round of 16 as a singles participant at ITA’s.
