Ellie Hilling Rothfuss, a former All-Region Division I lacrosse player and local lacrosse coach has joined the University of Rochester women’s lacrosse coaching staff for the 2021-22 season.
Hilling Rothfuss had previously served as an assistant coach with the varsity girl’s lacrosse program at Brighton High School in Rochester and was the Co-Director of F50 Lacrosse. She also was the Program Goalie Director at ACES Travel Girls Lacrosse.
Previous coaching stints for Hilling Rothfuss include working under UR head coach Carly Ritchlin at SUNY Geneseo during the fall of 2016. She also was assistant coach for Spencerport varsity girl’s lacrosse for two seasons and served as head coach of Common Goal Travel Girl’s Lacrosse for multiple seasons.
Her playing career came at the University of Notre Dame where she was a four-year starter in goal for the Fighting Irish. She was named 1st Team IWLCA All-West/Midwest Region as a senior in 2013. Additionally, Hilling Rothfuss was an All-Big East 1st Team honoree in 2013 and was named to the Big East All-Tournament Team in 2010. She was selected to play in the IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star game and graduated holding most of Notre Dame’s goalkeeping records.
Hilling Rothfuss’ career stats included a 44-26 record in 71 starts. She made 528 saves and accumulated a goals against average of 9.77 while posting a save percentage of .439. During her career, she helped Notre Dame qualify for the NCAA Division I Championship in the 2010, 2012 and 2013 seasons.
In the Notre Dame record book, Hilling Rothfuss currently ranks second in goalkeeper career games played and wins and third in career goals against average.
She graduated in 2013 from Notre Dame with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. After returning to the Rochester area where she grew up, Hilling Rothfuss earned a Master’s degree from SUNY Brockport in Education and Counselor Education in 2017. She attended high school at Brighton HS in Rochester, graduating in 2009.
Since 2016, Hilling Rothfuss has been working as a school counselor within the Rochester City School District.
