Ethan Curren has been named Interim Director of Rowing in December 2025, after previously being an assistant coach with the Yellowjackets since the 2023-24 season.
Curren comes to the River Campus after previously serving as Associate Head Coach of the Hobart and William Smith Colleges rowing program for three years. Prior to that position, he was Assistant Coach with the Hobart men’s program for two seasons. At HWS, he was part of the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year in 2020-21.
He brings a wealth of experience to the Rochester staff, having previously worked in the United States Olympic Development Program while also serving as Director of Rowing at both the Genesee Waterways Center and Pittsford Crew.
Over his 30-plus year coaching career, Curren has helped teams to 38 gold medals at the USRowing Club National Championships, 5 golds at the Youth National Championships and 7 first-place and 11 total medals at the Head of the Charles Regatta.
Curren graduated from Dartmouth College in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in Classical Archaeology. He earned a master’s degree in Teaching from Tufts University in 1998.
