Seniors Lead Comeback Over Union

In their final regular season home appearance, seniors Shawnessy Dusseau and Katie Poeth netted goals to lead the 'Jackets to a 3-1 victory over the Union College Dutchwomen here in a rainy, damp Fauver Stadium this afternoon.

Rochester answered an early Union goal by Hillary Benoit with an unassisted goal by sophomore Courtney Nussbaum with 29:04 remaining in the first half. Dusseau took a pass from fellow senior Jessica Cassavaugh and knocked it in to give the 'Jackets the 2-0 lead at 11:34 of the first half.

Poeth added an insurance goal when she redirected an Emily Coughlin shot past the Union goalkeeper Amanda Meissner at 15:30 of the second half.

Pam Sheffield had two saves in net for the 'Jackets, Meissner had six for Union.

With the win, Rochester improves to 8-9 overall, 3-4 in U.C.A.A. play. Union is 2-13, 1-6 in U.C.A.A. Before the game, the six seniors were recognized for their accomplishments over their four-year career.

This class has been an integral part of the resurgence of the field hockey program. As juniors, they helped the Yellowjackets tie the single season record for victories and claim a place in the semifinals of the New York State Championships.

The six seniors are Cassavaugh, Dusseau, Poeth, Sheffield, Jen Knipe, and Kelly Melcher.
