Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

M. Soccer Defeats R.I.T. 3-2, Now 7-3-1 Overall

The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 3-0 advantage midway through the second half but had to hold off a furious rally by the R.I.T. Tigers before winning 3-2 here in Fauver Stadium tonight.

With the non-conference win, Rochester is now 7-3-1 overall. R.I.T. is 5-6-1.

The Yellowjackets put on most of the pressure early, dominating most of the early offensive play. They capitalized in the 42nd minute, when freshman Tyler Green, positioned in front of the goal box, crossed the ball to sophomore Colin Fernie who booted it into the the upper left corner of the net to give the 'Jackets a 1-0 advantage going into halftime.

After the intermission, Rochester scored twice in a two-minute span to seemingly put the game out of reach for the Tigers. At 50:22, senior Ross D'Eredita buried an indirect free kick from just outside the penalty area after the ball was tipped to him by senior Nick Wheeler, who received the ball from sophomore Nate Micklos. At 52:21, sophomore Gary Stom passed it to Micklos off another free kick and Micklos blasted it from right wing into the net to give the 'Jackets the commanding 3-0 advantage.

R.I.T. dominated much of the play the rest of the game. The Tigers did not allow much offensive pressure by Rochester the rest of the way and rallied for two goals, one by Chris Mbaakanyi at 63:21 and another by Trae Lower at 68:04, but could not score the equalizer.

Rochester goalkeeper Brian Minehan made three saves for his seventh win of the season. His counterpart in the R.I.T. net Matt Klosner also made three saves. Rochester held a 14-9 advantage in shots.

The soccer teams host University Athletic Association rival N.Y.U. Saturday afternoon as part of a Meliora Weekend triple-header in Fauver Stadium, with the men kicking off at 2:30 p.m. and the women following at 5 p.m. Field hockey hosts Vassar at noon to start the day's action.
