Rochester erupted for three goals in an eight minute span in the first half and went on to a 6-0 win over Wells College in field hockey.
Jen Knipe, Celinda Fletcher and Erin Charnow all hammered home goals during a furious Rochester assault during the first half. Mary DiMatteo added another goal before halftime to put the Yellowjackets ahead 4-0. The second half was highlighted by goals from Courtney Nussbaum and Fletcher's second of the game.
Knipe opened the scoring at 11:16 with a shot out of a scramble in front of the net. Fletcher tallied her first goal just over three minutes later with a blast from the right at 14:40. Both goals were unassisted. Erin Charnow improved Rochester's score to 3-0 by tapping a pass from Kaitlin Poeth into the left side of the goal mouth. DiMatteo ended the first half scoring with a goal assisted by Charnow at 24:09. Courtney Nussbaum knocked in a goal with a shot from in front of the net at 57:43 of the second half. Fletcher recorded her second score of the afternoon on a 10-yard blast off a penalty corner with assists from DiMatteo and Kristy Johnson at 70:00.
In goal for Rochester, Pam Sheffield made no saves but recorded the win to bring her record to 4-5. Kendra Howe made 13 saves in the first half for Wells and teammate Zamir Vasquez stopped 9 shots in the second half. Rochester outshot Wells 38-0.
The Yellowjackets improve to 5-6 with the win and will play host to Vassar at noon on Saturday at Fauver Stadium. Wells falls to 3-5 and will be home against Seton Hill College on Saturday.
