WESTERVILLE, OH - Sept. 7 - Rochester defeated the College of Notre Dame, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon to win the championship of the Otterbein Invitational Tournament.
Gary Stom and Nate Micklos had a goal and an assist apiece for the Yellowjackets. Greg Colavecchia and Nick Wheeler scored the other goals.
The Yellowjackets improved to 3-1 with the victory. The College of Notre Dame is 1-3-1.
Brian Minehan, whose sprawling save in the final two minutes on Saturday helped preserve the win over third-ranked Otterbein, made one save in 77:41. He was replaced by Aaron Bernstein who did not face a shot on goal in the final 12:19.
Stom wound up scoring the gamewinning goal in both games. He netted the gamewinner this time at 12:04, assisted by Micklos.
Colavecchia made it 2-0 at 38:41, driving home a pass from Stom. Rochester held an 11-0 lead in shots at the halftime whistle.
Wheeler and Micklos struck within less than four minutes of each other in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Wheeler buried his first of the year at 58:53 with an unassisted tally. Micklos scored his third of the season at 62:27 after Brandon Laws served a free kick.
Rochester held a 24-2 advantage in shots and a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.
