Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Big Second Half Leads to Win Over NYU

The women's soccer team poured in four goals in a 13-minute span in the second half and defeated NYU, 4-2, in New York City on Sunday afternoon.

Rochester took sole possesion of first place in the University Athletic Association at 2-0. The Yellowjackets have six points. Chicago, which knotted Carnegie Mellon 0-0 on Saturday, is second at 1-0-1 with four points.

Freshman Laura Morrison struck twice in a two-minute span to turn a 2-1 edge into a 4-1 lead. Her goals were crucial because the Yellowjackets scored into their own net with 13:01 remaining and gave some life to the Violets.

Frosh goalkeeper Molly Leitch picked up her second victory of the season. Adrianne Hulchanski played the first 45 minutes. She made three saves. NYU took a 1-0 lead against Hulchanski with 1:02 left in the opening period. Jennifer Tavares got to a loose ball in front of the net and popped it home.

Senior Karen Forsythe equalized for Rochester, collecting a rebound off the post and driving it into the far corner at 54:48.

Emily Urbanczyk, who netted the gamewinner on Thursday at Geneseo, drove one inside the far post at 59:47, putting the Yellowjackets ahead for good.

Morrison scored off a Forsythe corner kick at 65:07 for a 3-1 edge. With the Violets pushing a few more forward in search of a goal, Morrison sprang free on a breakaway exactly two minutes later and scored the fourth goal.

Rochester held a 16-13 edge on shots (12-7 in the second half). Corner kicks were even at three apiece. NYU goalkeeper Kaitlin Barnes made seven saves.

The Yellowjackets are 6-1-3 overall.
