The Yellowjackets scored once in each half to claim a 2-0 men's soccer victory over Brandeis University at Fauver Stadium.
Gary Stom scored in the first half and Ben Cross in the second as Rochester opened its University Athletic Association season with a win. The Yellowjackets snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 8-2 overall.
The loss ended a four-game Brandeis winning streak. The Judges are 5-3 overall, 0-1 in the UAA.
Stom chased down a long ball on right wing midway through the first half. He turned sharply, then cut inside a defender and right-footed a 22-yard under the dive of Brandeis goalkeeper Jake Knoll at 21:38.
Rochester stretched the lead to 2-0 in the 60th minute. Eric Jablonka stayed onside to corral a ball just before it reached the endline. He hooked it into the box and Cross, running even with the right post, nodded it inside the left corner.
Jack Burgasse rmade two saves to get the victory. Knoll had two saves as well.
