Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Wilson's Hat Trick Tops Ithaca

Revay Wilson scored three goals to lead the Yellowjackets to a 5-1 victory over Ithaca in field hockey on Tuesday.

Kristy Johnson and Krista Butler scored the other goals for Rochester. Kari Plewniak and Erin Charnow had two assists apiece.

Johnson opened the scoring 13:27 into the match when the Yellowjackets worked some wizardry with the ball. Charnow got the ball to Plewniak who pivoted and found Johnson wide open in the center of the box. She drove it under the dive of Ithaca goaltender Andrea Barabaiola.

Six minutes later, Wilson netted what turned out to be the gamewinner. Plewniak unleashed a long blast from left wing and Wilson was there to tip it home at 20:50.

Ithaca pressed for a goal. The Bombers poured into the box and the stream of attackers paid off with 12:46 left in the second half. Kelly Palmer, on the right doorstep, pushed it in frotn and Bryce Meck drove it home, pulling IC within one, 2-1.

The Yellowjackets answered with two goals in the three minutes, both off the stick of Wilson. With just under 11 minutes left, Rochester found Mary DiMatteo free down the right sideline. She raced down the wing in a 2-on-1 with Wilson. As the defender closed in, DiMatteo shoved it into the middle. Wilson hit it quickly and hard - it got under Baraiola's dive who had charged out of the cage to cut down the angle. The goal came with 10:23 to play.

Wilson completed the hat trick and made it 4-1 with 9:02 left. Celinda Fletcher crossed it from right wing to the left side of the attacking zone and Wilson found the wood from eight yards away.

Butler scored her team-high ninth goal of the year with 3:48 left. Charnow played a penalty corner out of the left side. It went to Heidi Davies at the top of the arc. She faked a shot, then passed it on the left. Fletcher stepped over the ball and Butler whistled it into the goal.

Rachel Cahan made five saves in goal for Rochester. Baraiola had six stops for Ithaca.

The Yellowjackets are 9-6 overall. Ithaca is 6-8. The Bombers were ranked number 17 in Division III in the October 12 NFHCA Coaches Poll.
