The Yellowjackets took control from the start and defeated Elmira College, 6-0, at Fauver Stadium on Saturday night.
Nate Micklos and Gary Stom combined for three goals and three assists in the first 18 minutes. The other Rochester goals came from Chris Lee, Nick Mikolenko, and Colin Fernie.
Rochester has a six-game unbeaten streak (3-0-3) and stands at 10-2-3 overall. The Yellowjackets are ranked 21st nationally. Elmira is 2-11. The Soaring Eagles have lost four in a row.
Stom fed Micklos on a breakaway and Micklos cracked a hard shot to the low left corner with the game just 24 seconds old. At 4:51, the Yellowjackets doubled the lead. Micklos played a corner kick out of the right corner. It went to Mike Springer at the back (left) post. He headed it across the goalmouth to Stom at the right post and Stom headed it into the net.
Micklos made it 3-0 at 17:48. Jeremy Goico pushed the ball ahead to Stom. He played it to Micklos on the right and Micklos hit a low liner from 17 yards to the left corner again.
Two minutes into the second half, Nick Mikolenko boomed a corner kick out of the right corner. It sailed past everyone to the back post where Lee headed it under the center of the crossbar. Mikolenko made it 5-0 at 54:59 when he scored after Elmira keeper Kelly Brooks saved a shot by Jeremy Mann.
The final goal came from Colin Fernie. He latched on to a loose ball at 67:21 and drove a long shot into the open net.
Brooks made nine saves for the Soaring Eagles. Aaron Bernstein played the first 70:39 for Rochester in goal. He was replaced by Paco Corbalan who finished the final 19:21. Neither player faced a shot.
