Washington senior goalkeeper Colin Robinson made a series of difficult saves to preserve a 0-0 double overtime tie with 18th-ranked Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium here this evening.
He finished with nine saves, all of them after the first half in which the teams combined for six shots.
In the 66th minute, the Yellowjackets earned a free kick 25 yards out directly in the center of the goalmouth. Rochester junior Nate Micklos hit a hard liner aimed just under the crossbar. Robinson parried it over the bar for a corner kick, then grabbed the ensuing followup shot by Jeremy Goico.
With less than six minutes to play, Robinson knocked down a left wing blast by Rochester's Damien Hallatt, then grabbed the next shot from four yards out by Colin Fernie.
Rochester's best chance in the overtime came in the 97th minute. Micklos chipped a free kick into the box from right wing. Goico, running from left to right, flicked a header just wide of the left post.
Washington's only shot after the first period came midway through the second OT. Brian San Francisco fired from the top of the penalty area, but a Yellowjacket defender blocked it.
Rochester held a 15-4 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge on corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Jack Burgasser earned his fourth solo shutout, but did not have to make a save to get it.
The Bears (11-4-2 overall, 2-1-2 UAA) and Rochester (10-2-4, 1-0-4 UAA) continue to chase the title in the University Athletic Association and the automatic post-season bid that goes with it.
