The Yellowjackets handed Chicago their first UAA loss of the season with a 3-2 victory this afternoon at Fauver Stadium. Rochester improves to 11-2-4 overall and remains undefeated in University Athletic Association play at 2-0-4. Chicago, ranked 10th in the most recent NSCAA/adidas Top 25 poll, falls to 12-2-3 overall, 3-1-2 in the UAA.
Rochester got off to a fast start, taking a 2-0 lead in the first 17 minutes of the first half. Nick Mikolenko put the 'Jackets on the board when he knocked home a centering pass from Ben Cross at 12:29. Nate Micklos then converted a pass from Jeremy Goico for his 14th goal of the season and the two goal advantage at 16:23.
Will Wennerth answered back for the Maroons in the second half. He scored 2 goals at 58:01 and 61:20 to tie the score at 2 goals apiece. The deadlock was broken at 68:13, when Jeff White blasted a free kick deep into Chicago territory to Michael Springer, who headed the ball accross the middle to Micklos who capitalized with his 15th goal which proved to be the game-winner.
Chicago goalkeeper Keith Krum, who had previously only surrendered 4 goals the entire season, made 2 saves. Jack Burgasser made 3 saves in net for the win. Chicago outshot Rochester 11-10.
The Yellowjackets make their final regular season home appearance this Saturday when they host Case Western in Fauver Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
