Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Battles to Scoreless Draw With Union

This Saturday night, the women's soccer team tied the Union Dutchwomen, ranked #16 nationally in the latest NSCAA/adidas Top 25 Poll, 0-0 after double overtime. This was the second straight game the Yellowjackets battled a nationally-ranked opponent to a scoreless draw in Fauver Stadium after knotting 11th-ranked William Smith 0-0 on Wednesday.

The 'Jacket defense managed to keep the Dutchwomen off the scoreboard despite a steady offensive attack throughout the 110 minutes of play. Union outshot Rochester 18-4 for the contest.

After a scoreless first half, Union forward Cassandra Mariani had a great chance to notch the game's first goal with about 30 minutes remaining in regulation, but her hard blast from the top of the penalty area hit the post. In the first overtime, midfielder Brittany Sosa almost scored the golden goal for the Dutchwomen but her header was knocked just over the crossbar by Rochester goalkeeper Adrianne Hulchanski.

Both teams traded quality scoring chances in the second overtime. Anne McMahon's shot sailed just high for the Yellowjackets early in the period, and Erika Eisenhut's breakaway shot was punched to the side by Hulchanski midway through the final period.

Hulchanski made 5 saves for the Yellowjackets, who now stand at 2-1-2 overall for the season. Julie Gawronski went the distance in net for the Dutchwomen (4-0-1 overall) and was not forced to make a save. Gawronski has yet to allow a goal this season.

Rochester's next home game is Wednesday, September 22 versus R.I.T. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
