Kristy Johnson scored one goal and set up two more as the Yellowjackets defeated St. Lawrence, 4-1, in field hockey on Saturday afternoon at Fauver Stadium.
Kari Plewniak, Mary DiMatteo, and Revay Wilson scored the other goals. Rochester is 2-0 in the Liberty League, 5-2 overall. It is the fourth win in the last five starts.
The Saint goal was scored by Abigail Copeland off a pass from Liz Allison after a penalty corner by Erin Lloyd. The goal came at 55:00 and cut Rochester's lead to 2-1.
Wilson opened the scoring at 31:40, knocking home a goalmouth feed from Johnson. Plewniak, who has scored in three straight matches, made it 2-0 at 44:44, assisted by Johnson.
Rochester goaltender Rachel Cahan made five saves, including a diving stop of a blast from Lloyd that nearly got the visitors even later in the second half.
The Yellowjackets got some breathing room in the final 10 minutes. Plewniak unleashed a shot from the top of the box that DiMatteo deflected into the net at 62:07.
Rochester's final goal came with 42 seconds left. Erin Charnow played a penalty corner out of the left side. It was bandied about in the box and rolled to Johnson who stuffed it inside the corner.
The Yellowjacket defenders were superb,led by Heidi Davies and Charnow. They kept poking the ball free from Saint attackers and kept pressure out of Rochester's defensive half.
