The field hockey team successfully opened its 2004 campaign with a 4-0 win over SUNY Oswego.
Rochester scored two goals in each half and held a 28-6 shot advantage, 24-4 in shots on goal.
Mary DiMatteo scored two second half goals to put it out of reach. Erin Charnow and Krista Butler scored one goal apiece. Kristy Johnson had two assists. Kim Snyder, Celinda Fletcher, and Kari Plewiak had one assist each.
Rachel Cahan made three saves to earn the shutout and Michelle Gilchrist had a defensive save.
The game was barely three minutes old when the Yellowjackets earned a penalty corner (they had 15 on the afternoon). Fletcher played it out of the corner, Plewiak settled it, and Charnow, who was last season's top scorer, buried it in the net at 3:34.
At 24:18, Johnson made a nice pass to Butler who scored in front for a 2-0 lead.
DiMatteo struck at 47:55 and 64:52. Johnson set up the first, Snyder the second.
Oswego earned a penalty stroke in the first half with the score 2-0. The shot hit the post.
Rochester is 1-0. Oswego is 0-2.
