The women's basketball team played one of its best games of the season has clinched a berth in the JPMorgan Chase Tournament Championship Game.
Rochester defeated Roberts Wesleyan, 67-58. the third-seeded Yellowjackets will play top-seeded St. John Fisher in the final. Rochester won the 2003 and 2004 championships.
Emily Lyons scored 14 points, Jamie Mooney had a career high 10 points, and Jessie Graham added 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and four steals.
All nine players scored - a good portion of it in transition as the Yellowjackets ran periodically on the Raiders (13-5) and opened a lead because of it.
Rochester was cold to start the game (1 of 6 from the field) and Roberts jumped in front, 16-6, eight minutes into the game. The Yellowjackets went to work and outscored RWC 22-3 over the next seven and a half minutes to jump on top, 28-19, with 4:14 to play in the period.,
Seven different players scored in the run. Danielle Muller had two fast break buckets which put Rochester ahead, 19-17, for the first time. Roberts answered with a jumper.
Then Jamie Mooney, who was blocked on a drive to the hoop, cut outside the arc, caught the kickout pass after the Yellowjackets grabbed the blocked shot, and drilled a three pointer from left wing. It gave Rochester the lead for good, 22-19.
A short jumper in the lane by Ashley Latimer, a layup by Graham, and two free throws from Megan Krebbeks, increased the edge to 28-19. It was 34-25 at the break.
In the second half, the Raiders attacked the basket and ran off a 9-2 run to pull within 43-40. Christine Hunter (12 points) scored the last six RWC points in the burst.
Latimer scored in transition, as did Mooney and Krebbeks to push it back to nine, 49-40. The lead reached 55-43 when Megan Fish drilled a right corner jumper just inside the three point line after Emily Bango threw a crosscourt pass.
Roberts got it down to seven, 55-48, but Krebbeks scored off the left baseline, then Mooney converted on the break from Krebbeks, drew a foul, and made the free throw for a 60-48 lead.
