The women's basketball team staged a furious second half rally before falling to NYU, 71-61, in New York City on Sunday afternoon.
Rochester trailed by 13 points, 43-30, less than five minutes into the second period. The Yellowjackets went on an extended 14-4 run over the next eight minutes. When Danielle Muller sank a jumper assisted by Emily Bango, it was 47-44 with 7:43 to go.
The Yellowjacket rally was forged by attacking the basket (the Yellowjackets made five of eight free throws) and strong defensive play. NYU managed one bucket and two free throws over that eight-minute run.
NYU, ranked number 6 in the latest D3hoops.com poll, ran off eight straight points to take a 55-44 lead with 5:59 to play. Rochester cut it to nine points four times, the last on Jessie Graham's three-pointer with 1:52 to play (64-55), but couldn't get it below that.
Megan Fish led three Yellowjackets in double figures with 14 points and nine boards. Kelly Wescott scored 12 points and Muller finished with a career high 12 points. Emily Lyons added nine points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.
