Amy Thompson scored one goal and set up another just 4:17 apart in the first half and the women's soccer team went on to a 4-0 win over SUNY Geneseo at Edwin Fauver Stadium Tuesday night.
Kelsey Turley, Mary Walsh, and Angela Heaney scored the other goals for the Yellowjackets. Rochester improved to 8-1-1.
Geneseo, coached by Yellowjacket women's soccer alumnus Aria Garsys Goodberlet, was on a roll coming into the game. The Knights had won four of their last five, all by shutout, and stood at 6-4.
Just under half an hour into the match, Rochester opened the scoring. Thompson hammered a 30-yard free kick into the nets at 29:27. At 33:44, she put another free kick into the goalmouth and Turley was there to touch in the rebound.
Rochester stretched the lead to 3-0 at 58:44 when Walsh scored on a penalty kick. Heaney completed the scoring at 67:30, assisted by Laura Bojko.
Adrianne Hulchanski played the first 45 minutes in goal. She made one save. Molly Leitch played the second 45 minutes. She did not have to make a save.
Rochester outshot the Knights, 17-2. The Yellowjackets held a 4-0 advantage on corner kicks.
For Geneseo, Diane Long made four saves and allowed two first half goals. Laura Castor made three saves and allowed two goals in the second half. The loss makes Geneseo 6-5.
