Facing a field with two nationally-ranked teams in it, the men's cross country squad gave a very good accounting of itself at the annual Alumni Invitational at Genesee Valley Park on Saturday afternoon.

Rochester finished third out of nine schools in the run. The Yellowjackets totaled 66 points, just a shade behind SUNY Brockport (58) for second place. Allegheny College, ranked 19th in the current Division III poll, won the team crown with 20 points. SUNY Geneseo, the number 16 team in the poll, finished fourth with 112 points.

Sophomore Mark Stevens was at the head of the pack for the Yellowjackets. He was clocked in 25:46.07 for the eight-kilometer course and finished third overall. Junior Joseph Lust was 12th in 27:08.19 and senior Kevin McGettrick was 13th in 27:11.75.

The other Yellowjacket scorers were sophomore Daniel Mueller in 17th place (27:18.35), freshman Daniel Chebot, 21st in 27:23.34. The displacers were junior Ben Snyder, 23rd (27:31.23) and freshman Thomas Brekke, 31st, in 28:01.47.

It was a rugged test against a good field. The UAA championships are around the corner, followed by the New York State meet, and capped off by the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships – which Rochester will host in Genesee Valley Park on November 12.
