ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Rochester moved back into first place in the UAA women's soccer race with a 1-0 win over Washington University in St. Louis.
Carnegie Mellon, which was the leader, was upended by NYU, 1-0, in Pittsburgh. At 3-0-1, Rochester has 10 points in the UAA standings. Carnegie Mellon, at 3-1, has nine points. Emory is 3-1 also (nine points) after a 1-0 win over Brandeis in Atlanta.
Mary Walsh scored at 15:37 when she hit a 10 yard shot inside the near post. It was her sixth goal of the year and her fourth gamewinning goal.
Adrianne Hulchanski played the first 45 minutes in goal. She made two saves on two WU shots. Molly Leitch played the second 45 minutes. She made three saves.
Rochester improves to 9-1-2 overall, 3-0-1 in the UAA. Washington is 7-6-1, 1-3 in the UAA.
The Yellowjackets return home to open a five-game homestand, beginning on Wednesday vs. Nazareth at 7 pm in Fauver Stadium. Rochester hosts SUNY Cortland on Oct. 23 at noon, RPI on Oct. 25 at 4 pm.
All eyes in the UAA will focus on Fauver Stadium on Oct. 28 and 30 when the Yellowjackets host Emory (the 28th) and Carnegie Mellon (the 30th).
The shutout was Rochester's ninth in 12 games. It was the seventh shutout in the last eight outings.
