Gary Stom scored two goals in just over nine minutes midway through the second half to carry the University of Rochester to a 2-0 victory over visiting SUNY Cortland at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Rochester improved to 13-0 this season. The Yellowjackets have won 17 straight games and are ranked third in the current NSCAA/adidas Division III poll.
The win halted a Cortland streak. The Red Dragons, now 10-6, had won five of their last six coming into the game and posted four shutouts in that run.
Stom has been on a bit of a hot streak recently. He had one goal and two assists last weekend when Rochester defeated Chicago (2-1 in OT) and Washington (2-0) on the road in the University Athletic Association.
He broke a scoreless tie tonight with his eighth goal of the year, scored at 51:15 when he converted a short pass from Nick Mikolenko. He made it 2-0 at 61:32 when he collected a right wing cross from Stephen Maltzman and turned it past Cortland goalkeeper Ross Morelli.
Paco Corbalan recorded two saves to earn his seventh shutout this year. Morelli made nine saves for the Red, Dragons.
