Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women Blank Cortland, 3-0

Mary Walsh scored two goals and Amy Thompson had one as the women's soccer team defeated SUNY Cortland, 3-0 at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Sunday.

The Yellowjackets improved to 11-1-2 overall. Cortland is 10-7. The Red Dragons came into the match with shutout wins in their last two games.

Rochester has won three in a row and posted five straight shutouts. The Yellowjackets have shut out 11 of their 14 opponents this season. Rochester has conceded one goal in the last 10 games.

Walsh opened the scoring at 15:58. She latched on to a loose ball and lobbed a 20-yard drive from just outside the penalty area to the top left hand corner of the goal, beyond the reach of Cortland goalkeeper Katie Killion.

Thompson made it 2-0 at 37:20. Rochester earned a free kick along the right sideline, roughly 35 yards from goal. Thompson lofted the ball to the back post where two teammates charged. The ball soared over everyone - including Killion - and nestled in the top left hand corner.

Walsh competed the scoring at 65:34 with her eighth goal of the year. Anne McMahon stole a clearance along the right sideline. She played the ball laterally to Walsh outside the box. Walsh cut around a defender and ran in alone at Killion. As the keeper charged off the line, Walsh slotted it under her into the center of the net.

The Yellowjackets nearly got a fourth goal two minutes later when a Thompson free kick from 25 yards slammed into the crossbar.

Rochester had a 16-1 advantage in shots and earned six corner kicks to none for Cortland. Adrianne Hulchanski played the first 45 minutes in goal for Rochester and Molly Leitch played the second 45. Neither goalkeeper had to make a save.

Killion had five saves for the Red Dragons.
