Sophomore Mark Stevens qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships next weekend by finishing fourth at the NCAA Atlantic Regional in Genesee Valley Park on Saturday.
Thirty eight teams from New York and New Jersey congregated to determine the two teams and four individuals that qualified for the national championships.
Stevens was the fourth man through the tape, clocking 25:23.1 for the 8K course. He was just seven seconds off the individual regional title and one second ahead of the fifth place finisher which could have nudged him out of qualification.
As a team, Rochester was a strong race finishing fourth. The Yellowjackets had 145 points, good enough to push past SUNY Cortland into the fourth spot.
Kevin McGettrick was 24th in 26:27.9. Dan Mueller was 28th in 26:31.6. Joe Lust was 32nd in 26:39.9. Thomas Brekke was 57th in 27:06.3.
The displacers were Daniel Chebot, 73rd in 27:18.3, and Chris Nolan, 112th in 27:57.0.
