CLINTON, NY - With four runners in the top 16 finishers, the men's cross country team ran to a second place finish at the New York State Championships.
Rochester had two in the top 10, three in the first 15, and four among the top 16 runners. The Yellowjackets totaled 84 points to finish ahead of everyone except Geneseo.
The five Yellowjacket scorers were separated by one minute, 8.3 seconds. The first man through the tape was Mark Stevens. He was clocked in 26:28.8 and finished fifth for the 8K course. Kevin McGettrick was the second Rochester runner, timed in 26:50.7. He finished 10th overall.
Joe Lust was 15th overall in 27:04.0 and Dan Mueller was literally on his heels, covering the distance in 27:04.2 for a 16th place finish. The fifth scorer was Thomas Brekke, timed in 27:37.1, 38th overall.
The displacers were Daniel Chebot, 47th in 27:57.0, and Chris Nolan, 50th overall in 28:04.9.
Rochester hosts the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship next Saturday in Genesee Valley Park (gun goes off at Noon).
