Kelly Wescott (Burke, NY/Franklin Academy) scored 17 points in 22 minutes to lead the University of Rochester to a 64-47 victory over visiting Carnegie Mellon University at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Saturday.
Wescott also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Yellowjackets. Rochester finished the regular season at 15-10, 7-7 in the University Athletic Association. Megan Krebbeks (Bristol, NY/Canandaigua Academy) had nine points for Rochester. Megan Fish (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central) and Ashley Latimer (Brookeville, MD/Sherwood) chipped in eight points apiece.
Rebecca Shore (State College, PA/State College) led CMU with 12 points in 23 minutes off the bench. Lisa Seacat (Helena, MT/Helena) had 11 points and seven rebounds. Candice Gesecki (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke) scored 10.
Six different players scored in a 13-2 run early in the first half that boosted Rochester to a 16-6 lead. A three-pointer by Jessie Graham (Seattle, WA/Lakeside School) pushed the lead to 25-8 midway through the half. It was 28-15 at halftime.
Gesecki scored eight points in the first nine minutes of the second half as CMU fought back to eight, 43-35, with 11:08 left. Krebbeks hit a layup and jumper to ignite a 8-0 run that gave Rochester a 51-35 lead with just over seven minutes to play.
Carnegie Mellon finished the season at 0-14 UAA, 4-21 overall.
