The University of Rochester Women's Basketball team kept their playoff run alive tonight with a 67-44 win over Utica College at the Palestra tonight. The 'Jackets advanced to the semifinal round of the ECAC Upstate New York Championships, where they will face Union College.
Much of Rochester's offense was generated from a strong perimeter game. Rochester was led in scoring by Jessie Graham with 18, with 15 of those coming from three-point goals. Danielle Muller chipped in 14 points, with 9 of hers coming from treys. Also scoring in double figures was Megan Fish, with 12. Muller also had 7 rebounds, with Kelly Wescott leading in boards with 9. Emily Bango dished out 8 assists to round out the Rochester offense.
Rochester held Utica to 29.5% shooting from the floor, with Janine Hayes (11p) and Ava Thomas (13p) scoring in double figures. Lise Kaiser led the Pioneers' rebounding with 9, while Hayes also pulled down 8.
Both teams struggled to hold on to the ball, combining for 55 turnovers over the course of the game. However, a big factor in Rochester's offense was their ability to capitalize on Utica's turnovers, scoring 21 points from turnovers to Utica's 11.
Rochester tips off against Union at 2 pm on Saturday, March 5 at St. John Fisher College. In Rochester's last meeting with Union, Rochester fell in overtime, 57-55. Union advanced to the semifinal round with a 79-57 win over Hartwick College.
