Men Defeat Roberts Wesleyan, 7-1



With six players scoring goals, the men's soccer team avenged one of its two losses from last season with a 7-1 victory over Roberts Wesleyan.

Nate Micklos scored two goals and assisted on one. Gary Stom set up two and scored one. Colin Fernie had a goal and an assist. Single goal scorers were Sean Hantes, Jeremy Mann, and Tyler Green. Nick Mikolenko and Chris Lee had solo assists.

The Yellowjackets improved to 7-0-0. Rochester is ranked sixth in this week's Division III poll. Roberts Wesleyan is 2-5-1.

Last year, Roberts defeated Rochester, 2-1, to hand the Yellowjackets their first loss of the season.

Micklos struck twice in the openign 21 minutes. At 9:54, he collected Colin Fernie's lead and scored on a breakaway. At 20:17, Stom made a crisp pass in front and Micklos scored into an open net.

Hantes stretched the lead to 3-0 at 35:21, scoring on a rebound. Brendon White pulled a goal back for the Raiders at 42:30 with Mark Howlett assisting. Howlett provided the cross and White tipped it home.

Less than four minutes into the second half, Fernie made it 4-1 from Stom. Micklos intercepted a pass and set up Stom for a 5-1 edge at 55:58. Mann made it 6-1 at 59:18, heading home Mikolenko's free kick. Green completed the scoring at 70:00, taking Lee's breakaway pass and chipping it over the goalkeeper.

Paco Corbalan played the first 76:19. He allowed the one goal and was not forced to make a save. Greg Chaffin played the final 13:41 and kept the sheets clean.

Jack Burgasser made six saves in 66:15 for Roberts. He was victimized for the first six goals. Ramon McIntosh made five saves in the final 23:45 and allowed one goal.
