Rochester broke out for two quick second half goals and went on to a 4-1 field hockey victory at SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday afternoon.
Kristy Johnson scored a pair of goals in a span of 5:33 to push the Yellowjackets in front, 3-1. Johnson leads the team in scoring with seven goals and she has scored in three straight matches.
Mary DiMatteo and Revay Wilson ahd the other Yellowjacket goals. Katie Moll, Lara Bucarey, Celinda Fletcher, and Kari Plewniak registered assists.
Rachel Cahan made seven saves - all in the second half - to earn the win. She was put under the gun by the Blue Knights who outshot Rochester, 10-4, in the second 35 minutes. Cahan made seven saves and allowed one goal.
The hosts got event at 39:04. Jeanine Tripepi crossed it and Stephanie Honsinger knocked it in from four yards out.
Johnson netted the gamewinner at 43:22, tipping Bucarey's cross high into the corner. At 48:55, she made it 3-1, scoring on a breakaway after Fletcher's pass set her free. Wilson completed the scoring at 64:54, tipping home Plewniak's pass.
Geneseo held a slight 11-10 edge on shots. Rochester had 14 penalty corners to seven for the Knights.
The Yellowjackets improved to 8-4 overall. They have won four in a row and five of the last six. Geneseo is 7-5.
