Rochester scored twice in the first five minutes and went on to a 2-1 women's soccer victory over the University of Chicago at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Mary Walsh set up the first goal and scored the second. The opener came from Ashley Weagraff with Anne McMahon also assisting.
Chicago's goal was scored by Eve DeLaurentis midway through the first half.
In the opening minute, Walsh chased a ball into the right corner and cut it short to McMahon near the corner of the penalty area. She crossed it in front where Weagraff hit a low drive into the right corner behind the reach of Chicago goalkeeper Amanda Sutter at 0:42.
Less than two minutes later, Walsh hit the left post on a breakaway. She eventually got the second goal, this time at 4:40. Stephanie Klenotich collected a ball 36 yards from goal. She chipped a pass down the left side which sprang Walsh into the penalty area. After two short dribbles, she lined it under the crossbar.
Chicago regrouped after the 2-0 deficit and began to control play. The Maroons finally broke onto the scoreboard at 23:17. A Rochester clearance was picked up by DeLaurentis about 10 yards outside the right half of the box. She lined it hard towards the goalmouth. Rochester goalie Molly Leitch deflected it, but couldn't seize it and the ball sailed under the crossbar.
With less than 20 minutes to play, each team had a good opportunity to score. With just over 18 minutes left, Rochester's Laura Bojko collected a ball in space on the left, took it to the end line, and lined it for Emily Urbanczyk whose tip-in attempt was saved at point blank range by Sutter.
Four minutes later, the Maroons challenged down the center of the field. They got the ball to Brooke Bontz one step inside the area. Before Bontz could maneuver, Klenotich pried the ball loose and pushed it to midfield.
Rochester is 9-0-2 overall, 2-0-1 in the UAA. Chicago is 8-3-1 overall, 1-2 in the UAA. Rochester hosts Washington on Sunday at 11 am. Chicago goes to Cleveland to play Case.
