Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men Knot Chicago in 2 OTs

Rochester was denied on a handful of good chances in the second half and OT and wound up tying Chicago, 1-1, in men's soccer at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

With the tie, the Yellowjackets are 1-1-1 in the UAA, 6-3-2 overall. Rochester hosts Washington on Sunday at 1:30 pm. Chicago is 7-3-2 overall, 1-1-1 in the UAA. The Maroons go to Case Sunday.

Chicago held a 1-0 lead at hafltime courtesy of a goal at the 14:00 mark. Edgar Friloux chipped the ball ahead to send Andrew Hamilton in alone on goal. Hamilton's shot from 12 yards beat the oncoming Paco Corbalan and nestled in the lower right corner.

The Yellowjackets made two good stops in the later stages of the first half to keep it a one goal game. Eric Floyd was stopped by Dominic Pellingra in the box as he roared in from right wing after Chicago did a good job reversing the ball with a series of passes in the 32nd minute. Just over a minute later, Corbalan parried a header by Friloux for a corner kick. He finished with five saves.

Corbalan produced one of the best saves of the night early in the second half. Chicago's speed and one-touch passing ability created some chances throughout the match. At one point, Floyd maneuvered on goal and his shot ticketed for the right corner of the net was pulled back and saved by Corbalan in the center of the box.

Rochester knotted the score on a penalty kick in the 58th minute. Jeremy Gaden made a good run down the left sideline and got the ball to Neil Osuch in the area. Osuch tried to cross it into the middle but the pass was handled by a Maroon defender and the referee immediately awarded the penalty kick. Tyler Green drove the kick to the low right corner, beyond the reach of Chicago goalkeeper Keith Crum.

With 28:35 left, Sean Hantes weaved in, crossed the ball from right wing, and Osuch just missed a tip-in at the near post. With 12 minutes remaining, Nick Mikolenko sprang J.J. Dennstedt free on a breakaway but Crum pushed it wide for a corner kick.

Green had a chance for the gamewinner in the 82nd minute. He spun from the edge of the crease just outside the left post but his low shot was covered by Crum.

Chicago's best opportunity in the extra sessions came with four minutes left in OT. Friloux was sent in on a breakaway through right wing only to see Corbalan block and cover the shot.

Crum finished with five saves in 96:31 for Chicago. He was replaced for the final 13:29 by Micah Gruber who was not required to make a save.
