Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Wins 10th

The field hockey team won its 10th game of the season and sixth straight with a 1-0 victory over Ithaca College at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

Krista Butler scored midway through the first half off a penalty corner and the defense maintained the edge. Rachel Cahan made three saves to earn her fifth shutout this season and the ninth of her career.

Ithaca goaltender Andrea Baraiola made five saves for the Bombers. Ithaca is 4-10.

Each team had one defensive save. Mary DiMatteo had the stop for the Yellowjackets five minutes into the match. The Bombers earned a penalty corner and got off good shots by Leslie Robinson and Sarah Magliochetti. Cahan blocked one shot and DiMatteo, positioned at the left post, stopped the other.

Ithaca's defensive save came in the second half following a shot by Rochester's Christi Bottcher. Her shot was blocked by Robinson. It was Robinson's ninth DS of the season.

The game's only goal came after Bottcher played a penalty corner out of the left side to the right side of the arc. Celinda Fletcher trapped it, then pushed it back across the arc where Butler scored her sixth goal of the season and third consecutive (she had two vs. Houghton last week).

Rochester had a chance to increase the lead to 2-0 four minutes later. After another penalty corner, Fletcher weaved into the area and shot it for the left post. It was just out of the reach of several players lunging for a tip-in.

In the first 10 minutes of the second half, Ithaca created three good opportunities. Five minutes in, Robinson shot for the left post and Melanie McKaney couldn't get to it for a tip-in. On a free shot three minutes later, McKaney shot through a tangle of legs. With just under 25 minutes left, Robinson shot from the center of the box and Cahan made a right-glove save to tip it wide left.

Butler nearly scored a second goal with 20 minutes left. She picked up a bad clearance and raced alone at Baraiola who kicked the shot wide less than five yards from goal.

Bottcher made a heads-up play with 18 minutes to go. Elyse Green drove through on the right side and crossed the ball past the onrushing Cahan. Bottcher got to it just ahead of Laura Renner and redirected play the other way.

Rochester held a 15-4 advantage in shots and a 9-4 edge in penalty corners.
