SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - Eighteenth-ranked Skidmore College rallied to tie with less than five minutes to play and scored in overtime to defeat the Yellowjackets, 3-2, in field hockey.
Rochester concludes its Liberty League season at 3-4. The Yellowjackets are 10-6 overall. Skidmore, which is battling for home field advantage in the playoffs, is 11-4 overall, 5-2 in the Liberty League. Last year, the Thoroughbreds nipped Rochester in overtime at Fauver, then won by a goal in the semifinals of the Liberty League championships.
Skidmore took a 1-0 lead six minutes into the match on a goal by Sheila DeLea, assisted by Katie Weber. Rochester's equalizer came off the stick of Mary DiMatteo at 21:03. The Yellowjackets forged ahead 2-1 when Alicia Citro scored an unassisted goal at 50:55.
They held that lead until 65:21 when the Thoroughbreds scored on a penalty stroke by Casey Tang. Skidmore won it at 76:34 with Mariah Schuette scoring.
For Rochester, Rachel Cahan made 12 saves and faced 30 shots. Skidmore's Meredith Peeke had one save. The Thoroughbreds held a 16-4 advantage in penalty corners and a 30-5 margin on shots.
