Field Hockey Wins in ECACs



CHESTER, PA - Rochester scored goals 11 minutes apart in the second half and defeated Widener University, 3-2, in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Field Hockey Regionals.

The victory puts the Yellowjackets into the tournament semifinals against Johns Hopkins University, a 5-1 winner over Wesley College. The ECAC semis will be played at top-seeded Montclair State University.

Kristy Johnson and Revay Wilson scored the second half goals. Johnson hit the back of the net twice and has a team-high nine goals. She is second in scoring with 18 points.

Johnson scored at 23:35 to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead. Widener tied it through Jaime Carr at 40:59 when she scored her 25th goal of the season (assisted by Mallory Meyer). Carr made it 2-1 in favor of the hosts at 46:08.

Rochester equalized at 51:53. Johnson scored the tying goal, set up by Mary DiMatteo. Wilson scored unassisted at 62:52 and the Yellowjacket defense made it stand up.

Goaltender Rachel Cahan made 13 saves and allowed two goals. Widener goaltender Kate Heritage made 17 saves and allowed three scores. Rochester held a 23-18 shot advantage and a 10-3 edge on penalty corners.

Widener, which established a single-season victory record this year, finished the season at 13-6. The Yellowjackets set a single-season win mark with the triumph. Rochester is 13-6 as well. The 'Jackets entered the game with 12 wins, tying the school record set in 1985 and equaled in 2002.
