Krista Butler and Lara Bucarey scored once in each half to give the University of Rochester a 2-0 field hockey win over visiting Hamilton College at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Rochester goaltender Rachel Cahan made two saves to pick up her second shutout in the last four games. She has conceded just two goals in that span.
Courtney DeMaria had eight saves for the Continentals. Hamilton is 1-5 overall, 0-2 in the Liberty League. Rochester improved to 4-3 overall, 1-1 in the Liberty League.
Butler broke up a 0-0 tie at 18:48. The Yellowjackets were awarded a penalty corner. Mary DiMatteo hit it short and Christi Bottcher latched onto it near the endline. She passed it to the edge of the area where Butler whipped a low shot between DeMaria and the left post.
Hamilton nearly evened the score with just over 16 minutes to play. The Continentals played a long ball upfield towards Natalie Schwerin. Cahan charged out of the Rochester goal and kicked the ball away at the edge of the area, just as Schwerin got a stick on it. The defense couldn't clear it and Cahan blocked a shot by Hamilton's Marley Berns.
Bucarey clinched the win with 5:32 to go. She made a long run down the right sideline, then cut sharply for goal. DeMaria was forced to charge out of the goal to cut down the angle and Bucarey flipped the ball over the goaltender's shoulder into the open net.
Rochester outshot the Continentals, 13-3 and held a 7-2 advantage on penalty corners.
