NEW YORK - Host New York University scored two goals, then held on for a 2-1 victory over the Yellowjacket men's soccer team on the west side of Manhattan.

Rochester takes a loss in its University Athletic Association opener. The Yellowjackets are 4-3-1 overall, 0-1 in the league. NYU is 9-1-0 overall, 1-0 in the league.

Adam Dhanens put the Violets ahead at 24:17, heading home a free kick from Zyad Qamer. Jeritt Thayer made it 2-0 at 48:17 when he scored on a direct kick.

Rochester stepped up the pressure in the second half, outshooting the Violets, 12-9, and forcing NYU goalkeeper Chris Wright to make seven of his nine saves. Paco Corbalan made seven saves for the Yellowjackets and Rochester cleared one ball off the line.

The Yellowjacket pressure was rewarded at 84:50 when Sean Hantes got to a loose ball and lined it into the net.
