Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

A Win to be Proud Of

Phil Proud headed in a free kick from Matt Sulkin with two seconds to play to give the men's soccer team a thrilling 3-2 win over RIT at Fauver Stadium.

Proud's header capped a two-goal rally by Rochester in the last six minutes. The Yellowjackets equalized on a penalty kick by Sulkin at 84:06 after RIT was whistled for a handball.

Rochester pressed in the final minute and earned a free kick along the right sideline outside the penalty area. With the clock counting down from 10 seconds, Sulkin curled it into a packed goalmouth and Proud managed to deflect it in traffic just inside the left post.

The entire Yellowjacket bench emptied, earning Rochester a team yellow card. RIT kicked off with two seconds left and Mark Frisicano's shot from midfield was saved by Michael Peacock.

RIT took a 1-0 lead at 35:15. The Tigers were awarded a free kick along the left sideline. Andrew Ong sent it into the box and Chcuk Marion directed it into the lower right hand corner of the goal.

Another free kick – this one for Rochester – led to the equalizer. The Yellowjacket kick was cleared outside the left post. Patrick Ripp collected the clearance and chipped it into the middle of the box where J.J. Dennstedt slid it into the left side of the net at 43:22.

RIT's quickness on the counter attack led to a go-ahead goal before the second half was 10 minutes old. Daniel Holowaty, who had lined a 20-yarder over the crossbar just a minute before, ran down the center of the pitch in a three-on-one. Allen Nicholson pushed the ball from right wing into the area. Marion slid it further to his left and Holowaty, in a one-on-one situation with Peacock, drove it hard and low into the right corner.

The Yellowjackets continued to press. With just over 25 minutes to play, Jeremy Mann came through the right side on a breakaway. His shot for the far left post was mis-hit and it sailed well wide of the upright. Mann was denied again five minutes later, This time, he fired in a crowded goalmouth and an RTI defender stuck out a leg to deflect it for a corner kick.

Peacock made five saves to pick up his fourth win in five decisions. RIT's Alan Smith had five saves as well. Rochester is 7-2-1. RIT is 7-3-1.
