The men's soccer team put together one of its best efforts of the season in posting 1 -0 victory over ninth-ranked New York University on Saturday.
This came against a team that reached the Final Four last season and had most of its veterans returning. NYU was ranked number nine nationally in the current Division III Coaches Poll.
Rochester improved to 8-2-1 overall, 2-0-0 in the UAA. The Yellowjackets have won five in a row, and this win comes only four days after a victory over RIT in the final seconds.
A thunderstorm hit the area midway through the first half and delayed play for 40 minutes (due to a visible lightning strike). After the deluge ended, Rochester broke the scoreless tie.
Nick Mikolenko chipped a ball into the goalmouth and NYU goalkeeper Chris Wright came off the line to grab it. The rains had made the playign surface - and therefore the ball - slick. Wright couldn't grasp it tightly and when the ball hit the turf, Scott Cady was there to turn it into the net at 28:37.
Michael Peacock made two saves to pick up his fifth win of the year. Wright made two saves.
