Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Bucarey Nets OT Winner

Lara Bucarey drove home a penalty corner from Erica Gelb 8:05 into the first sudden death overtime to give the Yellowjackets a 3-2 field hockey win over Brockport at Fauver Stadium.

The gamewinning goal - her 12th tally of the season - came after each team had missed opportunities to win in in overtime.

Bucarey scored two goals and Alicia Citro had one for Rochester. Kelly Henry and Allie Basher struck for Brockport.

Both teams scored a dramatic late goal to force a tie in each period. Henry put the Golden Eagles ahead at 23:08 when she tipped in Basher's shot off a penalty corner. Rocheste equalized one second before halftime. Citro drove into the box and lined a 15-yarder from just inside the circle through a tangle of bodies and into the wood at 34:59.

Bucarey put Rochester in front for the first time at 41:19. The Yellowjackets earned a penalty corner. Erica Gelb took it and pushed it to her sister, Tara, who laid it on to Bucarey's stick. She lofted a shot from 12 yards that looped into the cage for a 2-1 lead.

Brockport pushed for an equalizer. Jenn Danker used her speed to constantly challenge the Yellowjacket defense. After several attacks, the Eagles came downfield again and Henry ripped one from the left side through traffic. Rochester goaltender Rachel Cahan swatted it into the middle of the box and the Yellowjacket defense cleared the rebound.

The tying goal came with 3:47 left in regulation. Another attack down the left flank got the ball on to Danker's stick. She slid it in front of the cage - past Cahan's lunge - and Basher tipped it into the right side of the goal.

In overtime, Cahan stopped Henry on a breakaway, tackling the ball free just outside the circle, then pushing it wide and out of bounds. Shortly after, she stopped Allyson Granish from in close.

The Eagles nearly won it five minutes in. Brockport counterattacked and developed a three-on-one break. The ball came to Danker who darted into the box, fired past Cahan, and watched tbe ball slide inches wide of the left post.

Rochester's best chance in OT - before the gamewinning goal - came with just over 9:30 to play. The Yellowjackets worked it in to Amanda Case after a penalty corner and Brockport goaltender Andrea Vitello saved the first-timer from close range.

On the winning goal, Erica Gelb pushed the penalty corner to Bucarey halfway around the circle on the left. She took one step forward and her quick shot flew straight into the back of the cage.

Cahan and Vitello made seven saves apiece. Rochester had nine penalty corners. Brockport earned eight. Each team took 12 shots.

Rochester is 10-6. Brockport is 6-8.
