ST. LOUIS, Mo. - A week ago, Jeremy Mann scored a goal early in the second half to help put a game vs. Houghton out of reach.
Mann's second goal of the year was a little more dramatic. It keeps the Yellowjackets in first place in the University Athletic Association race.
Three minutes after Washington took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Nat Zenner, Mann headed in a corner kick to equalize. The teams finished in a 1-1 double overtime tie.
Rochester is 11-2-2 overall, 4-0-1 in the UAA race. The Yellowjackets have 13 points in the standings, one point ahead of Emory which defeated Brandeis. On Sunday, Rochester plays at Chicago (which lost in overtime to Case). Emory hosts NYU.
Eight days later, Rochester visits Case while Emory hosts Carnegie Mellon, NYU tangles with Brandeis, and Washington hooks up with Chicago.
Michael Peacock made three saves for Rochester and the Yellowjacket defense cleared one ball off the line. John Smelcer had three saves for the Bears. Washington is 12-4-1 overall, 3-1-1 in the UAA. The Bears have 10 points in the standings.
Zenner put Washington ahead at 57:35, shooting off a deflection with an assist credited to John Hengel. Three minutes later, the Yellowjackets earned a corner kick. Nick Mikolenko took it, swinging the ball into the area where Patrick Ripp pushed it further on toward Mann who headed it home at 60:29.
Rochester had five corner kicks to one for Washington. The Bears held a slight edge in shots, 12-10.
