The Yellowjackets defeated the visiting New York University Violets 1-0 on a goal by Amy Thompson off of a curving corner kick taken by Mae Butler with ten seconds remaining in the first half to snap NYU's eleven game unbeaten streak.
Rochester applied pressure throughout the game, as NYU struggled to penetrate the Rochester defense over the course of the game. The Rochester offense out-shot NYU 14 to two including five shots from freshman Bridgette Varin. Laura Morrison, Amy Thompson and defensive player Kelsey Turley each had multiple shots in the game.
New York goalie Katie Barnes played well, recording five saves, but could not stop the flurry of shots by Rochester. For the 'Jackets, Molly Leitch recorded the shutout with two saves over 90 perfect minutes in goal.
Rochester improved to 7-3-0 while handing NYU their first loss of the season, dropping them to a record of 10-1-1. The women will be home against UAA rival Carnegie Mellon for their next game on October 12th at Fauver Stadium.
