GRANVILLE, OH – Molly Leitch made four saves to earn her 15th career shutout as the women's soccer team, ranked 12th in Division III, defeated #22 Denison, 1-0, here.
The game-winning goal came at 12:56 when a Denison defender headed the ball into her own net while trying to block a hard, rising shot by Rochester's Amy Thompson.
Rochester (2-0) defeated Kenyon College, 2-0, on Saturday. The Yellowjackets have shut out 33 of their last 44 opponents.
“Denison is a quality opponent and will win a lot of games this year,” said Rochester head coach Terry Gurnett. “I'm pleased with the way we played defensively. We defend all over the field.”
Denison is ranked #22 in the pre-season coaches' poll and #17 in the pre-season media poll. Rochester is ranked #12 by the coaches, #14 by the media.
Rochester held the Big Red to nine shots, just four on net. Rochester took six shots. Denison (1-1) goalkeeper Liz Gillette made three saves.
