500 Wins for Men's Soccer!



J.J. Dennstedt scored one goal and set up two others – all in the first half – to lead the Yellowjackets to a 5-1 win over SUNY Oswego in the Flower City Classic at Fauver Stadium.

Timnmer McCarthy scored twice for the Yellowjackets (1-1). Steve Welles and Matt Sulkin scored single goals.

The Oswego goal was scored by Chris Carra at 71:48, assisted by Mark Pereira. The Lakers are 0-2.

The win was Rochester's 500th victory in men's soccer. The program began in 1934. The Yellowjackets have an all-time record of 500 wins, 303 losses, and 69 ties. This is Rochester's 74th season of men's soccer.

With the victory, Rochester finished second in the Flower City Classic on a tiebreaker (goal difference). SUNY Cortland won the team title. St. John Fisher was third, and Oswego was fourth.

Dennstedt earned the tournament's Best Offensive Player award. The Best Defender was Carlos Martinez of St. John Fisher. The overall MVP was Adam Jurcic, a defender for SUNY Cortland.

Rochester broke up a scoreless game with two goals – both assisted by Dennstedt – in a span of two minutes, 35 seconds. Dennstedt pushed a low ball in front that Welles chipped past the goalkeeper at 28:43. Less than three minutes later, Matt O'Donnell crossed it from left wing to Dennstedt at the penalty spot. He pushed it further to the right to Sulkin for the goal at 31:18.

Dennstedt made it 3-0 at 42:48, assisted by Clif White. McCarthy scored at 51:14 and 59:28.

Paco Corbalan played the first 52:03 in goal for Rochester. He was not forced to make a save. Michael Peacock made one save and allowed one goal in 19:45, and Brandon Campbell made one save in the last 18:12.

For Oswego, Shaun Sessa made five saves in 67:31 and allowed five goals. Nick Liberati made two saves in the last 22:29.
