Lara Bucarey scored twice and Valerie Lazickas added a goal and an assist to help the Yellowjackets open the field hockey season with a 3-1 victory over Houghton College.

Amanda Case added an assist for Rochester. The Yellowjackets are 1-0 and travel to SUNY Cortland on Wednesday.

"We played an intense game," said head coach Wendy Andreatta. "We had to adjust for a slow, grass field." The game was scoreless in the first half. Rochester came out of the halftime talk and scored two goals just seven minutes apart and put three in the net in 11 minutes.

"They got the hang of the surface," Andreatta said of her team. "In teh first half, they saw how hard they had to work to pass and control the ball."

Bucarey scored the game's first goal two minutes into the second half, with Lazickas assisting. With 26:08 left, Lazickas scored, knocking home a pass from Amanda Case. Bucarey completed the Yellowjacket scoring with 22:23 left by scoring an unassisted goal.

Houghton (1-2) broke through on a penalty stroke with 19:52 remaining.

Rachel Cahan recorded seven saves for Rochester in 70 minutes. She made four saves in the first half, three in the second half.

Andreatta took over as Rochester's head coach this summer after Michelle Andre resigned to enter private business.
