BRONX, N.Y. - Host NYU scored 46 seconds into the second sudden death overtime and defeated Rochester, 2-1, in women's soccer on Saturday.
For the Violets, it was their ninth win in the last 10 matches and their second UAA win this year. NYU is 9-3 overall, 2-0 in the UAA. The loss is Rochester's first since an opening day defeat at second-ranked Messiah College. The Yellowjackets are 8-2-2 overall, 1-1 in the UAA.
Ellen Coleman scored a clutch tying goal with 61 seconds left in regulation to force the OT. Her initial shot was saved by NYU goalkeeper Alex Walters. Coleman was there to ram the rebound into the net at 88:59. It was her seventh goal of the season.
Filiz Kipcalki scored both NYU goals. Her gamewinner was a 25-yarder into the top corner of the net after a pass from Laura Palumbo at 100:46. Kipcalki put the Violets ahead, 1-0, at 14:24 with Sarah Pillemer credited with the assist.
Celeste Hornbach made five saves in goal for Rochester. Walters had four stops for the Violets. NYU outshot Rochester, 13-9. The Yellowjackets had five corner kicks to NYU's one.
