ATLANTA, Ga. - Ninth-ranked Emory scored late in the first half and protected the advantage for a 1-0 win over Rochester in a matchup of nationally-ranked teams.
The Eagles remained unbeaten at the top of the University Athletic Association table (4-0 UAA, 13-0-0 overall). Emory is ranked #9 nationally. Rochester is #18. The Yellowjackets defeated #11 Carnegie Mellon, 2-0, on Friday evening. Rochester is 9-2-2, 3-1 UAA. The 'Jackets are tied for second in the UAA standings with Washington (which visits Fauver Stadium on October 31).
Marc DelMarmol scored off a pass from Patrick McFarland at 44:30 for the game's lone goal. Michael Peacock made five saves for Rochester. Jonathan Laycock made three saves for Emory.
Rochester applied pressure in the second half and earned nine corner kicks. An organized Emory defense kept control and kept the ball out of shooting range.
A year ago at Fauver, Rochester defeated the Eagles in double overtime.
