Visiting Washington University broke a 1-1 tie early in the second half and went on to a 2-1 victory over Rochester in a battle of nationally-ranked teams at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Rochester took a 1-0 lead at 9:52 when Bridgette Varin scored her 10th goal of the season. The Bears rallied to tie it three minutes later on a goal by Caryn Rosoff. She broke the 1-1 tie in the 48th minute, chipping a 20-yarder into the net.
Washington, which leads the UAA standings and is ranked eighth nationally, improved to 5-0-0 UAA, 13-2-1 overall. Rochester is 2-3 in the UAA, 10-4-2 overall.
In the 10th minute, the Yellowjackets earned a corner kick (one of eight). Kristen Ross pushed it from the right corner to the back post. Ellen Coleman touched it into the crease and Varin ran through to drive it into the right side of the net.
Washington evened it at 13:06. Becca Heymann pushed the ball to the right where Eylse Hanley collected it and sent it back to Rosoff who ran in alone to chip the ball past onrushing goalkeeper Celeste Hornbach.
Erin Carballo figured in two good chances for Rochester. In the 21st minute, she lined a 30-yarder from right wing for the left post that was parried by Washington's Amanda Boe. Six minutes later, Carballo dropped a pass back for Varin, slicing towards goal on the right side. Her liner for the top left corner sailed just over the bar.
