Mike Chmielowiec and Mike Labanowski each produced career high point totals to lead the University of Rochester past Pitt-Bradford, 78-62, in the opening round of the Chuck Resler Tournament at the Palestra.
Chmielowiec scored 25 points, hitting 10 of 18 from the floor, three of five outside the arc in 27 minutes. Labanowski scored 17 points, hitting six of nine from the floor, three of six outside the arch and both free throw attempts.
Marcus Robertson scored 10 points and had six steals in his first career start. Max Kaplan did not score, but handed out 10 assists and had four steals.
Dan Heisey scored 14 point for the Panthers. Sam Moore had 13 points. Pitt-Bradford committed 28 turnovers leading to 30 Rochester points.
Four players contributed to an 11-3 run over four minutes later in the first half that gave UR a 29-21 lead. It was 34-29 at halftime.
Pitt-Bradford's Sam Moore made two free throws early in the second half to get the Panthers within 39-34. Labanowski answered with a three-point goal to key an 11-3 run over the next two and a half minutes that pushed Rochester ahead, 50-37 with 14:47 to play. The Panthers never got it under double figures after that.
Rochester will play Ithaca College in Saturday's championship game. The Bombers defeated Trinity (CT), 80-75, earlier in the day.
