Mike Labanowski scored four points in the last 54 seconds as the University of Rochester held off Hobart College, 73-67, at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
Hobart (2-5) pulled within two, 67-65, on a three-point field goal by Matt Pebole with 1:28 left. Labanowski sank a jumper off the left baseline with 54 seconds left for a 69-65 lead. Rob Estep made two free throws, pulling Hobart to within 69-67 14 seconds later. Labanowski sank two free throws at 0:32 and Mike Chmielowiec added two more with 19 seconds left after Hobart missed a runner down the lane.
Chmielowiec scored 19 points to lead four double figure scorers for UR (6-2). Marcus Roberson had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Nate Novosel scored 14, and Labanowski finished with 10.
Mark Bruce led Hobart with 19 points. Tim Llewellyn scored 15. Rob Estep had 13 points and Pebole scored 11. Hobart is 2-5.
The Statesmen led for most of the half and were up, 33-30, at halftime. With the score tied at 49-49 midway through the second half, Rochester went on a 12-4 run over the next four minutes to take a 61-53 lead. The run was highlighted by conventional three-point plays from David Gould and Novosel.
