POTSDAM, N.Y. - Rochester sank five free throws in the final 11 seconds to hold off surging Clarkson and earned a 71-67 men's basketball victory over the Golden Knights.

Mike Chmielowiec and Max Kaplan hit two free throws apiece in the closing seconds and Mike Labanowski sank one. Rochester hit 20 of 25 from the stripe, 11 of 13 in the second half (84.6%).

Brandon Litton led Clarkson (7-2) with 18 points. Elson Pickering scored 12. Clarkson had a six-game winning streak snapped.

Novosel scored five points while Chmielowiec and Labanowski hit three pointers as UR jumped ahead, 11-0, in the first 2:11. Clarkson chipped away and eventually took a 24-23 lead on George Koduah's jumper, but Labanowski found Kaplan for a three-pointer and the Yellowjackets were in front to stay. Labanowski and Kaplan hit threes just 31 seconds apart to boost the lead to 32-25 with 3:51 left. The lead was 12 at halftime.

Another three-point goal from Labanowski stretched the UR lead to 18 points five minutes into the second half. The shooting turned cold on both sides and Rochester's next basket was a layup by Novosel for a 55-44 edge with 6:46 to go.

Clarkson continued to push and cut the deficit down to 59-56 on Keith Murray's trey with 3:20 left. Kaplan sank two free throws with 24 seconds left for a 66-60 lead. Murray hit another three and after a UR turnover, Koduah made two free throws, pulling the Knights within one, 66-65, with 15 seconds left.

Chmielowiec made two free throws before Linton's layup cut it to one again, 69-67, with 0:08 left. Labanowski made one free throw at 0:06 and after a Clarkson turnover, Kaplan clinched the win with two more free throws at 0:01.
